Fleet Week is around the corner, May 25-June 1, 2011. Soon the streets of New York City will be crowded with thousands of Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen from U.S. Navy. Because Dane and I are supporters of our armed forces and nosy, previous years we’ve actually sat down to talk to seamen from France, all over the US, and places I can’t remember. This year we’ll be doing the same exact thing. With the difference, that we’ll be posting our experience here in this very blog.
Never heard of Fleet Week? My first reaction is to ask you if you’ve been living under a rock… Just kidding! Second, is to give you some background on this event. So here you go:
Hosted nearly every year since 1984, Fleet Week New York is the City’s celebration of the sea services. This annual event also provides an opportunity for the citizens of New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today’s Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard Team. Fleet Week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays throughout the week, as well as public visitation of many of the participating ships.

There’s a lot to do during this week asides from meeting the men and women of our Navy. You can also tour the boats. Isn’t that awesome? Yes it is. I can’t wait to tour one!!! Dane has toured a ship in previous years and she has photos of her dressed in motifs and with guns and such. Let’s see if I can talk her into posting some of her pictures and sharing them with you!
Speaking of Navy vessels here is the events of schedule of the Intrepid Museumduring the event.
Ok I’ll stop boring you for now. For more information visit the Fleet Week official website.
XOXOXO
